The day waa wet and against good football, the ground being wet and greaay, but notwithatandf 5 this, some splendid games were witnessed. I Peroy Feary, at lloana, on Sunday, September 6, was detected by a constable, who was disguised as a swagger, shooting native pigeons, and was convicted to-day and fined £2 with costs on a charge of killing, also fined £2 on a eharge of being in possession and to pay costs and the Acclimatisation Society’s expenses. —Greymouth press wire. The Grey District Coursing Club's third meeting, to be held on Saturday, had to be abandoned, owing to some 13 out of the 17 hares in the enclosure haying been allowed to escape, owing to some person having made a hole beneath the wire netting. This was also done to the Grey Club at Omoto some 20 years ago, and resulted in the meetings being discontinued.

I Tbe final of the Reefton Golf Club’s | Women s Championship was played on Saturday afternoon, between Mesdames Inetone and Sharpe. After a very exciting and hard fought game Mrs Instone proved tbe winner by 2 up. Somewhat of a commotion was caused in Broadway on Saturday evening about 8 o’clock, when fire broke out while a motor cycle owned by Mr A. Bray, Cruabington, was being filled with benzine by Mr W. Blotn. Tbe latter immediately covered the opening into tbe tank cf the motor cycle with his hand, and prevented tbe cycle taking fire, while in his other band he had tbe hose from tbe bowser and the petrol from this, pturing on to tbe footpath immediately took fire, and tbe flames were all round the bowser in a few seconds and things looked any thing but healthy. Mr G. E. A. Hubbard, whose business premises are immediately opposite however, quickly seized up tbe position and rushed to tbe scene with a fire extinguisher, and tbe flames were put out in a very few Bt conds. to the relief of all present, and before any damage was done. It was remarkable the number of peopl , that congregated on the scene in a verv few seconds, the streets at that p„int being crowded to excess.
The football match Cobden v Inangahua, played on the Racecoura yesterday afternoon, was a well con tested game, and was heartily enjoyed by a large gathering of spectators. Cobden, however, proved tbe visiters, winning by 13 points to five. The Reefton aeore waa a splendid spectacular try scored bv P Scott, who also converted it. For Reefton, Scott, Hunt, Allen, and J. Dellaca, played godd games Tbe visitors returned home in .the evening.
