MURCHISON NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.) Murciiison, May 7. Shooting. The shooting for Mr Weber's trophy took place last Saturday in very wet weath r, and resulted with a win for Mr j. A. Crossman, with a score of 29. Mr V. Spiers was successful in winning the ladies' medal with a total ol 41, (10 shots at 500 yards). Found Dead.

An old miner named John Hall, was found dead in his hut on Thursday morning at Fern Flat, He had been getting very f-eble h'ely, and at times was somewhat strange in his ways. The funeral took place t>day in the Murchison Cemetery. An Accident.

A serious accident happened to Mr William Grainger, the well known carrier. He had driven Mr Weber, the Greymouth tailor, down to the 1 Lyell, and was returning home in the 'afternoon, when coming down the 1 hill at the Newton Bridge, the wheel [ went over a large stone, and the rebound threw Mr Granger out. He by unconscious until discovered by Mr W, Newman driving the coach up. a little after 5 p.m. The road at this j particular part is rather narrow, and ! as Mr Newman had no passengers, he j took the horses cut and was proceed. I ing to raise the injured man, when fortunately, Mr George White came along, and rendered every assistance ; possible. They took the sufferer back to Fairhall's, and Mr Downie, Senior, drove the Doctor down as speedily as possible, a wire having been sent from Newton Hotel. Although badly knocked about and bruised, the Doctor thinks no bones are broken, but his back is hurt and his side very sore. He was removed to his residence in Murchisoo yesterday, and we hope he will soon be about again. The horse and sulky crossed the Newton Bridge, but went over the bank when rising the hill. The shaft and back of the trap are broken. The horse was a young one lately broken in. Mr Beilby, Manager of the Newton Claim, stayed with Grainger all night at Fairhall's,
