! ; The Lower House Convocation of Canterbury, which is the Governing C< uncil ol the Church of England, with seven dissentients, resc.lved that it is undesirable to alter the ornament of the Rubric or prohibit the two existing usages regarding the communion or vestures. Mr W. Austin, who was selected by the local High School Committee as headmaster, has received word from the Chairman of the Nelsonj Education Board of his appointment, with the request that he take up his new duties on June Ist. To this Mr Austin has consented, and therefore will assume control of this school on that date. The members of the White Star Football Club will meet at the Theatre Royal, for practice this evening at eight o'clock. Recently, the Arbitration Court made an award prescribing certain increases in the,wages of persons empl( yed in tea rooms and restaurants. The proprietors are taking the change seiiously and in more than one case the prices of meats and refreshments are to be increased. One well-known restaurant in the city, which has made a great feature of a shilling lunch, announces to it's customers that the price will be is 6d from Monday next owing to the new award.
