REEFTON FIRE BRIGADE.
The annnal meeting of the mrnibers of the a>>ove Brigade was held on Thursday evening last. Present : Capt. Coiling* (cbair) and Messrs Oxley, Stevenson, Harris, Shephprd, Shaw, Harford. McArthnr, Campbell, Nash, Lawson. Fitch, Kater, De Tourfttp, Faler, and Seantlebnry. The balanct-sheet for the past year was r^ad and adoptpd. Gapt. Codings handed in bis resignan tiou as Captain of the Brigade, and in dcingsothanked thememi>ers and subscribers for the support accorded him (luring his term of office. Hi-* regn 4 . (1 that the business people did not shew more interest in the working of the brigade, the number of active members having now fallen to seven. It would be B»*f n at once that this number was altogether insufficient to cope with a lame fire, should one occur in the town, and he trusted to see some steps taken at once to strengthen the Brigade. General regret was expressed at the contemplated retirement of Capt. Collings. in whose ability for the position he held every confidence was expressed. Mr Oxley, on behalf of thp subscribers, moved that Capt. Collings be asked to re-consider the sn'»ject of his resignation. This was seconded and carried. Tt was resolved to re-plect Mr Collings as Captain for a term of three months, in order to enable the Brigade to find a suitable successor. Keference was made to the exertion of the Brigade at the recent bushfire on the Bailer Road, in the course of which it was mentioned that several lengths of hose, purchased by Broadway subscriptions, bad been burnt, and rendered nseless. It was resolved that three gentlemen residing on the Bnller road be asked to collect subscriptions for the purchase of new hose to replaced that destroyed, It was also decided to write to the County Council asking that body to extend the head race at the res a rvoir, so as to increase the inflow of water, and also to lay a main np Smithstreet so that the property of the Buller Road and neighborhood may be protected. Several persons in the room then signified their willingness to join the Brigade, and about seven names were enrolled. The meeting then adjourned.
