RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

TnT/BSDAY, Notembeb 8 th, 1877. (Before E. Shaw, Esq.,R.M.) STAITE V. HUNT. In this case tbe Magistrate said he had received a telegram from tho defendant stating that owing to floods be had been unable to leave the Lyell, and asking for ■ ari adjournment of the case. He (the Magistrate) had therefore granted an adjournment until Tuesday next. Mr Staite acquiesced in the adjournment, and the case was 'adjourned accordingly. Two drunks were called upon to answer for their delinquency. Sergeant Neville stated that the offenders had been kept in custody until tbey wore sober, and owing to the floods tboro was an unceitainty as to wben tbe Court would be held, and they had therefore been liberated upon the usual recognizance. Tbo Magistrate ordered the offenders to be dealt with iv the ordinary way. Tho Court then adjourned.
