NIL DESPERANDUM
Friday, November 2. The shaft level has now been extended for nearly 100 feet. The reef presents no material alteration sinco last report, there being about 15 inches of stono in the face this morning. On this occasion, and also on last week on reaching the tunnel mouth a truck load of stone was being run out, and which afforded a good opportunity for a careful inspection of the same. Every piece of quartz shows I splendid gold, in fact it mast bo pro* nounced tile bost quality in the district. The works of every day give more pro*, mise of somothing exceptionally good being struck from the opening of the lower levels of this ground. There is a large area of country to be prospected both north and south of the present work* ings, and at any moment the reef may opemout to two or three feet, and withj such gold as camo from the mine during my visit this morning the prospects are decidedly very healthy. Mr M'Laren the contractor for erecting whims has com menced. work, but the present weathor does not aid him in facilitating his contract.
