Wellington, September 15. Tbe Education Bill in Committee, clauses 51 and 52 were postponed. The words requiring the consent of the Minister to making District High Schools was retained on a division by 38 to 10. An amendment in clause 54 to make the fees of District High Schools cover tbe cost of the education given, was lost on v division by 43 to 2. The word " five " was altered to " ten "in clause 38. The remaining clauses to 75 were passed. An amendment was moved to omit the words relating to capitation tax in clause. 7&. After a long discussion it was rejected by 38 to 24. Clauses 77 and 78 were passed, and progress was reported. The Census Bill passed the remaining stages unaltered. The Friendly Societies Bill was partly considered in Committee. i The House rose at 1.30.
