TERRIBLE CALAMITY.
A Copenhagen con&apon&cnt writing on the Isfc April says :— The Norwegian papers recoived to— clay bring some datails of a terrible cdnraity which occnttift. o few day* ago ia the Korwogian village of Ji^lingso. It -appeal's that tlis school* master had called the chikh'sn of ilio villaget tdgother mth the object •of eiamining thorn, usiny for this purpose the second-floor of a largo mifinished log houie, to which access was gained throuyb a window by means of a ladder, tho staircase not Being finished. Twenty children had assembled, and the examination was nearly concluded, when suddenly the •choot»mas.ter observed smoke, directly followed by flames; enveloping the room in ft. moment in fire Rushing to the window ia© master observed to his terror that the Jaddor had disappeared. Seizing a couple, of the children he threw them out of the window, and jumped himself, j breaking one leg in the fall. All the men in the Tillage were out fishing and the women away ; thus no assistance was pos* sible and sixteen of the children were burnt to death.
