MURRAY CREEK.
[fbom oub mining bepobter.] ENERGETIC. Wednesday, May 23. ; For many many months past the general stato of mining affairs in tbis i portion of the district has scarcely afforded an opportunity of recording a so thoroughly satisfactory position of cirenmstances and really favorable progress of the respective ventures as at the present time. And certainly among the various mines in constant operation, the above deserves especial mention this week, ; proving highly remunerative, and being wrought to a very successful state of development. After having steadily kept the stampers pounding awny for three weeks, a general cleaning up took place on Monday last, and another ve»*y nice cake of the precious metal was the result ; this, addod to other sums obtained from each weekly return of the plates, gave a total yield for five weeks' crushing of 926 ozs retorted gold, and admits of a dividend of six shillings per 6000 th share being declared. It may be thoroughly understood that to . obtain a sufficient quantity of stono to keep thirty head of 7cwt stampers constantly in action a very great mnss of gold bearing quartz must bo available, but independently of the lodo lender present operation, a steady course of prospecting is constantly going on, and appears almost every week to show there are thousands- of tons of payable stone in this Company's ground of which little or ' nobbing, is- at present known- Oa Satur* day last on the upper level another small reef was met with, about two feet thick, showing excellent g:>id, and is of a very tblid formation and well defined. The same lode has also boon intersected again on tho middle level. Up to the present timi tho stono has been merely cut in each tunnel, and although of no great thickness is of a very superior quality to tho generality of tho stono in other parts of the mine. In fact it has been frequently said that it is a difficult matter to say what amount of gold bearing quartz is contained in this mine, and the work of every week verifies the above statement. A few incidental repairs w«re effected on Monday and Tuesday, and this morning at 12 o'clock preparations were being made for getting up steam and* tho batltery is once more in action.
