COST TO PLAINS COUNTY LIMITED TO £5333/6/8 SAVING OF NEARLY £lO,OOO Advice that the Haurtaki Plains County Coimdil need, only conftribute £5,333/6/8 instead of £15,000 x towards the cost of building a bridge across the Piaiko river to Pipiroa was contained-in a letter ifirotm the Minister of Works, Mr W. iS. Gootsman, which came before the December meeting of the conncii. “You will recollect that on July 13 last you made representations to me concerning your council’s share of the cost of constructing the bridge to Pipiroa across the Piako river and asked that the council be relieved of contributing towards the cost,” stated the letter from the Minister. “At my request the matter was considered by the Main Highways Board at its recent meeting and I am now advised that on account of an agreement reached with your council in 1'937 the board agreed to accept a sum of £5333/6/8 as'your council’s share of the post. The chairman of the board advised me that this agreement will be honoured by the board but states that under present circumstances your council’s share would be £15,b00, so it will be seen that on account of the 1937 your council is receiving a considerable benefit,” added the Minister’s letteA

“The chairman further states that the board is unable to recom/nend the classification of the Pipiroa-Kopu main, highway as a .State highway at the present time,” the letter concluded.
