LIME BAGS

POSITION GETS WORSE

FEDERATED FARMERS REPORT

“The position is deteriorating with regard to the supply of bags for the carriage of lime,” stated a letter from the provincial secretary,, Mr G. M. Rogers, to the December meeting pf the Paeroa branch of Federated Farmers.

Mr Rogers stated that owing to the shortage of bags the lime companies were forced to use bags more often than they would normally. Actually the previous standard was that bags would be filled three times and then would be discarded as unfit for filling again with lime. Now that the standard had been lowered by force ef circumstances a farmer might receive his lime in bags which were very worn and might be even forced to write them off as of no trade back value. Farmers were being charged ani exhorbitant price for rotten bags and it was not possible to get a refund on the bags. The bags were sent out to the next unfortunate at the same price. •

The letter concluded with the suggestion that full details of any specific case in the district should be investigated. The- meeting resolved that nothing could be done about the matter in the meantime.
