HAURAKI TRADER
A GOODWILL VOYAGE PAEROA AGAIN A PORT SEA TRADE REVIVING Many people took advantage of the invitation of the.Hauraki Shipping Company Ltd., to visit its new vessell, the Hauraki Trader, whilst she was at the Ngahina wharf, Paeroa, over the last week-end. The vessel arrived at Ngahina wharf just after noon on Saturday and those who availed themselves of the company’s invitation were shown over the ship by Captain A. Dixon and his crew of four, consisting of two engineers and two A.B.s. One interesting feature about the Hauraki Trader is that her crew are all shareholders in the company. The vessel is certainly a trim looking ship and with a cargo capacity of 250 tons should do much to revive the one time very considerable sea trade between Auckland and Paeroa, a trade which is at the present time showing signs of once more forming an important part of the transport industry in the Thames Valley with Paeroa as a distributing centre. The Hauraki Trader is to be used exclusively for trade between Paeroa and Auckland, according to a statement made by Captain Dixon to a Gazette representative. The owners have an arrangement with Marine Products Ltd., and .will carry for that company all its requirements from Auckland and also handle such manufactured products of the company as require to- be forwarded by sea to Auckland. With a draft only of six feet the twin screw vessel should be most suitable for working the Wai'hou river with its various stopping , places at Tuma, Kopu and Wharepoa... No cargo was carried on the initial trip which was one of goodwill only. Paeroa will be the home port of the vessel.
