BEYOND REPAIR
HOUSE AT ABATTOIR
COUNCIL’S DECISION
NEW HOME FOR PAEROA TOWN
The abattoir’s committee with Cr E. W. Lee and the mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, had inspected the house at the abattoir at present occupied by the manager, said Cr W. N. Chamberlain, chairman of the committee, at the October meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council.
Cr Chamberlain said that the house was 50 years old and all agreed that it was necessary to provide »a new house at a -cost of approximately £2BOO.
.The slaughter house also needed painting and the manager had agreed to do the painting if the council provided the paint.
Cr C. E. J. Gwilliam reported that the building of the dwelling was beyond repair. It was in a very bad condition indeed, though ]the manager’s wife kept the place in a remarkably clean condition despite its defects. It was necessary to have the slaughterhouse painted as soon as possible.
Cr N. C. Davies ’ endorsed the opinions expressed by the previous speakers that the house was quite beyond repair of any nature. The dwelling was now fit for demolition, added Cr E. W. Lee. , The council could only build a new house. There was no other way out of it and the manager and his wife had been very patient. He moved that a new house be erected without delay. The suggestion that the new building be in brick was put forward by the mayor, who council apply to the Local Bodies Loaris’ Bojard upder the rural housing scheme-idr a loan of £3-000.
will you get the bricks/’ asked Cr Chamberlain, who thought that if bricks were used there might be considerable delay.
Cr Lee’s motion was duly carried.
