NAMES OF STREETS

PAEROA CHANGES

MARSHALL AND BRENAN HONOURING TWO MAYORS A proposal to change the names of two streets in Paeroa was made at the October meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council by Cr H. P. Wylde. There was much Confusion between Junction street and Junction road 1 land -between Lower Hill street on one side of the railway# and Hill street on the other, with no connection between the two streets, said Cr Wylde. He proposed that Junction street be changed to Marshall street and Lower Hill street be named Brenan street. Moore road should be renamed Taylor avenue as there was already a Moore street in the Opotita block.

He had chosen the new names Because he thought it was fitting that honour should be done to Mr Marshall ’Who had been mayor of Paeroa over a long period. Similarly honour should be done to the name of Brenan the name of another former mayor of the town.

The usual legal procedure would have to be gone through but the council could pass a resolution approving of the change of names, said the mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards. Approval of the proposal was carried by resolution.
