FAREWELL PARTY

PRESENTATION MADE GOODBYE TO THE BAILEYS The Wharepoa hall was well filled recently when residents of both Wharepoa and Hikutaia gathered there to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs A. C. Bailey. Mr Bailey, who has resided in Wharepoa since the age of five, and Mrs Bailey since their marriage will make their new home in Kerikeri, North Auckland.

The function was organised by Mr E. H. Bax and a committee of Wharepoa residents. Music was provided by the Rhythm Troubadours. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs Ernie Bax and euchre prizes by Messrs Bradford and W. Green. A dainty supper was served by the ladies.

Mr E. H. Bax, on behalf of > the residents of Wharepoa, presented the guests of honour with a canteen of cutlery and in doing so Mr Bax said Mr Bailey had made a name for Wharepoa with his Ayreshire stud and the New Zealand bred cattle he had sent out of the country. He was also well known as a judge at cattle and calf club shows. Continuing, Mr Bax stated that Mr Bailey had been a member of a number of committees in the district and would be a hard man •to replace on the Wharepoa drainage committee. Both Mr and Mrs Bailey were also good* table tennis players (belonging to the Wharepoa club when in existence and the Hikutaia club for the past two seasons during which time Mrs Bailey was selected a member of the Thames Valley team. Concluding, Mr Bax wished them both a long and prosperous life in the winterless north. . Mrs G .Henwood then presented Mrs Bailey with a dainty shoulder spray. Mrs Bailey wore a frock of ivory floral jersey silk. The ladies present were Mesdames J. Bailey (Matatoki), C. Elliott (Omahu), E. H. Bax, W. Brunton (Thames), G. Bax, R. Cryer, G. Henwood, W. Green, W. Hartley, C. Murdock, A. McCollum, G. Bacchus, H. Bax, B. Chapman, N. Harper, H Smith, W. O’Hara, W. Cross, Fisher, Brown, A. Bax, E. Alley, M. Bax, Raynel, Presley, Lethbridge, Dynes, Thovburn, Kenlock, Bradford, Donnelly (Thames), Misses A. Harper, M. Avery, E. Bax, J. Chapman. Riley, Raynel, J. Turnbull• (Paeroa), Halsley (Puriri) and E. Bax.
