BIRTHDAY PARTY
200 ATTEND CELEBRATION
PIPIROA INSTITUTE AFFAIR
The • Pipiroa Women’s Institute celebrated its seventh birthday in the hall on Wednesday, September 20, when approximately 200 members of sister institutes and Women’s Division of the Federated Farmers enjoyed a very happy day together.
.Spring flowers in prolusion brightened the hall and luncheon tables and the institute left no stone unturned to ensure a happy day for its guests. The president, Mrs Scott, extended a warm welcome to those present and said how reluctant the institute was to restrict the invitations but it was felt that to have to seat some members on forms instead of at the tables was not altogether fair, hence the restriction as to numbers. A special welcome was extended to Mrs N. L. Lithgow, federation president, and to Mrs G. Pinnock, 'Dominion executive member, both of whom in reply thanked Pipiroa for its loyalty to district and Dominion federations. Mrs McAulay, in a few well chosen words, presented floral tributes on behalf of the institute to the president and secretary. Flowers were also presented to Mrs Knox, Pipiroa institute’s oldest member, to Mrs McAulay, treasurer, who took such good care of the finances of the institute and to Mirs Curry, who was responsible for the programme. After luncheon a ‘beautiful cake, made by Mrs Donald Dalgety and iced by Mrs Moffatt, was cut by Mrs Marshall, of Takanini, a past president of the institute. Whilst the cake was being distributed greetings and flowers were presented by the visitors to the president, secretary and treasurer. The sales table, under the supervision of Mesdames Tito and Tyler, did brisk business. The proceeds will be used to further the institute’s charitable activities.
