QUEEN’S BRIDGE
PLANS NOW TO HAND STRUCTURE TO COST £2780 Three sets of plans, specifieat’ons and estimates covering the construction of Queen’s bridge, Waihi, were forwarded to the September meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council by Mr A. Greville Walker, consulting engineer, Auckland. Mr- Walker stated that the documents were all that were required for submission to the senior engineer, Ministry of Works, Paeroa, with the exception of the bridge information sheet., •A suggestion was made by Mt Walker that the council’s engineer should discuss the proposals with the senior engineer l , Paeroa. The estimated cost of the new bridge was now £2780', said Mr L. E. Shaw, county engineer, who drew the attention of councillors to the increased cost of the structure. He did not think any better proposal could be put forward in order to meet the department’s requirements. Since the cost had been increased as a result of having to meet the requirements of the department it was only right that the Government should increase its contribution, said the county clerk, Mr A. A. Jenkinson Tjie Waihi Borough Council had definitely declined to increase its contribution. It was resolved that the plans he forwarded to the Ministry of Works for approval and that an increased contribution be asked for from the Government after the plans had been first submitted to the Waihi Borough Council for its approval.
