A POWER SPRAYER

WILLOW CLEARING WORK FOR use on the piako river The need for the Hauraki Catchment Board to purchase a power sprayer was stressed by Mr G. Davies, the board’s chief engineer, at the September meeting of the board held recently in Te Aroha. Mr Davies said that amongst other small items of equipment covered, £3O was placed on the estimates towards the purchase of three knapsack sprayers to attend to offending willows. The willow clearing work proposed on the Piako river would be very aduous work with such sprayers and it was thought that the efficiency of the work would not be high in consequence. Furthermore the wil.ows would be more easily reached from a I boat in the river and could be sprayed I thoroughly and quickly with the aid I of a power spray with two leads. The board’s authority was sought to J enquire further into the apparent usefulness of such a machine with the view of getting the council’s authority to purchase it if found satisfactory, said the chief engineer. The meeting resolved' to authorise the purchase of the power sprayer if the chief engineer thought the purchase desirable.
