MEMBERS REDUCED
NEW REPRESENTATION WAIHI TO HAVE ONLY ONE THAMES HOSPITAL BOARD “It is proposed to recommend that the Thames Hospital Board be reduced to 11 members, of which Waihi borough would have one,” stated a letter from the director-general, Department of Health, Wellington, to the September meeting of the 'hoard. The letter stated that a general review of the apportionment of representation on hospital boards was being undertaken preparatory to the local body elections which were to be held later in the year. For the board’s information a copy of the schedule for its district showing the proportions for each contributory district based on the latest available figures of rateable capital values and population was enclosed. “The board will observe that a® against two members allotted the proportion of Waihi borough is only 1.248 and a reduction of its representation is necessary,” continued the director- general, who concluded that the figures for a board of 11 had been added to the isichedule. The representation was not based upon population alone, said Mr W. C. Kennedy, who pointed out that with 3880 at Waihi that town would have one representative and Hauraki Plains County with a population of 5120 would* have 3 representatives. Was the decision mandatory, asked Mr Edwin Edwards. Mr A. L. Neighbour, secretary, said itn reply that apparently the new board would be elected upon the new decision that its members be reduced in numbers from 12 to 11.
