SUITABLE LAND
IN UNDEVELOPED STATE AREAS NEAR MAIN ROAD 'FEDERATED FAR'MBRS’ VIEWS “I have been instructed to forward you a description’of an area of undeveloped scrub land which Mr Ley and myself inspected, with the recuest that it be brought to the notice of the Minister of Lands and Commissioner of Crown Lands and that they be asked to visit in the near future the district to see the block and other areas of undeveloped land, wrote the provincial secretary of Federated Farmers, Auckland province, to Mr A. F. Thorp, of Paeroa, a member o* the lands committee of Federated Fari rners, the letter being placed before the September meeting of the executive of Northern Thames sub-province of the organisation. The letter went on to state that the block in question was on either side of the road to Whangamata, about 13 miles from Waihi. On the left it was considered there were about 600 acres of land which could be easily worked with a crawler tractor. On the right there was a similar area of similar country with about 80 acres, almost flat. The approach on that side would involve about a quarter of a mile of road. The land could net be seen from the main road. The opinion was expressed that it would help the district greatly if the area was farmed. The meeting appointed Mr R E. Tye as a second member of the lands committee with authority to act in conjunction with Mr Thorp and investigate the position and report back to the executive.
Mr S. E. Hall, the chairman, pointed out that there were suitable blocks of land all over the Dominion which could be developed to the advantage of the country but little was being done in that respect.
