BAY BASKETBALL
HIGH STANDARD OF PLAY TEAMS FROM COROMANDEL Two basketball teams from Coromandel were the guests of the Mercury Bay Basketball Club on Saturday last. The standard of play was high, with the Bay girls a little quicker than the visitors, but missing too many goals. Good clean short passing was consistent and good goalies were L. Strongman for Coromandel, Shirley Martin and Adele Smith for the Bay. The men played two games, and while these were not as exciting as the girls’ matches 1 , they provided some good laughs. Members of the Bay served a delicious buffet afternoon tea. Results were: —
■Kiwis I's defeated Coromandel C 13. At full time the score was 11 all and at the end of a spirited five minutes extra Kiwis were the winners. Coromandel A 17 defeated Whitianga 14; Coromandel 7 defeated' Men 1 3; Whitianga 9 defeated Coromandel C i 0; Coromandel C 9 defeated Men 2; Coromandel A 9 defeated Kiwis 6. The teams were:—
