THIRD REUNION

THAMES OLD BOYS ASSN. GATHERING IN AUCKLAND The third reunion of the Thames Old Boys’ Association for the year 1950 was held in the Druids’ hall, Auckland, on Saturday, August 6 last. There was a good attendance of members, and some old members, who had not been present for some time, again joined in the harmony of the old time gathering. Mr W. G. Aitken presided, assisted by the past president, Mr S. Skeen. The programme was opened by the singing of the national anthem. f Congratulatory greetings were offered to past time members on their reattendance at the reunion gathering. An interesting programme was dealt with, every item meeting with well deserved encores. Community singing under the able baton of Mr Doug McWilliams was specialised in, the accompanying instruments being the piano, violin and two kettle or small drums, all artists being experts at their particular instrument. The contributors to the musical and entertaining programme were Messrs Duncan, Hector Allan, Doug. McWilliams, Don Robertson. Lou Bickerton, Chas. Massie, P. J. Massey, Cyril Tucker and Jim Calvert. After ample justice had been done to the many 'good things provided on well filled tables and many toasts honoured, the gathering came to a conclusion with musical honours. Mr W. Brentnail, who was proceeding to Thames on August 12, was authorised 1 to approach Mr Eddy Watson and other members of the Thames Old Boys’ Association with the view of arranging a large reunion at the Thames. Information as to the early days in Waihi, Paeroa, Hauraki Plains, Coromandel is being sought by those entrusted with the work of compiling the history of those districts. In the Thames area the work has been entrusted to Mr A. M. Isdale and arrangements have been made for Mr Isdale to meet Mr Brentnail from whose close knowledge of the early days valuable details are hoped to be obtained.
