PUBLIC CONVENIENCES
COROMANDEL COUNTY PLANS ALREADY PREPARED Proposals are afoot for the erection of public. conveniences in Coromandel, and Colville and the matter became one for discussion at the July meeting of the Coromandel County Council.
At the meeting a, letter was read from the Department of Health asking for plans and specifications of the proposed public conveniences so that a requisition could be obtained from the Board of Health. The council’s consulting engineer, Mr Andrew Murray, who was present at the meeting informed the council he had already sent the plans asked fofr.
After a discussion was was proposed by Cr F. H. Purdom and seconded by Cr J. H. Reddy that necessary plans for Mercury Bay, Coromandel and Colville public conveniences be prepared.
The motion was carried. Cr T. V. Whittle asked just What did the requisition mean. The county clerk, Mr J. H. Lucas, expalined that if the Health Department requested the council to do certain work, it gave the council power to raise a loan which would be secured by interest and sinking fund to be paid out of the ordinary general fund of-the county without going to the ratepayers for a poll. The loan would probably be spread over 20 years but that would be determined by the Loans Board.
