RUN OF BAD LUCK
WOMAN BREAKS ONLY ANKLE
ACCIDENT AT BAY HOSPITAL
To lose her leg by amputation and then to fall down the back steps of the Mercury Bay hospital and fracture her only ankle was the misfortupe which overtook an elderly woman,, Mrs K. M. McMillan, of Auckland, recently. Mrs McMillan is 67 years of age and recently had to undergo an operation to have a leg amputated. She was recuperating under the care of her daughter, Sister P. McMillan of the Mercury Bay hospital and was just beginning to. get about on her crutches.
Mrs McMillan was taken from Mercury Bay hospital by ambulance but after starting on the journey to Coromandel hospital it was discovered .that th 6 vehicle had a punctured tyre and a broken spring and the patient had to be returned to Mercury Bay pending repairing the damage. 'Latest reports are that Mrs McMillan is making good progress and that she will return to file Mercury Bay institution after her ankle has been set in plaster.
