WHENUAKITE SCHOOL A BRIGHT GATHERING PRIZES AWARDED CHILDREN Then Whenuakite hall was the scene of a particularly bright and enjoyable gathering on Saturday, July 1, when a fancy dress ball was given for the school children. Prizes were awarded as follows: —

Over nine years, boys, John Hodge, old man; girls, Dorothy Lee, Queen Elizabeth.

Under nine years, boys, Trevor Barclay, winter; girls, Jill Hamilton, a bride. f Pre-school age boys, David Riddle, India boy; girls, Lana Ashton, plum pudding.

Those in fancy dress were—Graham Lee, Turkish sultan; Edward Prestage, Indian boy; Patricia Prestage, Indian girl; Anne Hinds, Polish dancing girl; John Hinds, clown; Philip Hinds, sailor boy; Arthur Hinds, Wee *Willie Winkie; Robert Marshall, Dutch boy; Glenice Lilley, fairy; Janis Hagan, Dutch bride; Daphne Hagan, flower girl; Molly Hagan, gypsy; Annette Hamilton, sunflower; Lorna Hamilton, piratess; Jill Hamilton, a bride* Paul Hamilton, Indian; Raymond Barclay, girl; Shirley Barclay, spring; Trevor Barclay, winter; Muriel Barclay, Victorian posy; Colin Barclay, swagger; Joan Barclay, 'boy; Ken Anderson, cowboy; Robert Anderson, ghost; David' Riddle, Indian boy; Dorothy Hodge, old woman; Owen Hodge/ pixie; John Hodge, old man; Margaret Wigmore, peasant girl; Robert Wigmore, pirate; Colin Harsant, baker; Jacqueline Hamilton, bunny; Dorothy Lee, Queen Elizabeth. The evening was* spent in dancing and games. Winners p£ the Monte Carlos were Mr and Mrs Murray and Glenice Lilley and Jacqueline Hamilton.

The musical magic stick was won by Daphne Hagan. Winners of the competitions were as follows: — Box ff chocolates, Glenice Lilley; fruit cake, Mr Norman Holt; pair of gloves; Mrs Roy Quigg; smoked fish, Mr Owen Hamilton. A delectable supper was served by the helpers. Mi; Williams was M.C. and Mr Shaw of Hikuai provided excellent music. During the evening Evelyn Murray presented Mrs Jack Hamilton with a box of chocolates on behalf of the chairman, committee and school children for the organising of such a successful party. Mrs Hamilton replied suitably. A creditable amount of over £l9 was collected. Mr Beynon generously supplied all the children with sweets, thanks feeing shown by a round of applause. Dancing continued till midnight.
