QUEENS BRIDGE
PLANS UNSUITABLE ENGINEER’S LETTER COUNCIL’S VIEW OF DELAY The contents of a letter from the Qhinemuri County Council relative to Queen’s bridge at Waihi had given x him some concern, stated a replying letter from Mr A. Greville Walker, consulting engineer to the council, which was placed before the May meeting of the. council. Mr Walker stated that he assumed the council was stating its own views as to the unsuitability of the design he had prepared for a new bridge at
the present Queen’s bridge site and' that such views were net shared by th® Waihi Borough Council In giving his reasons for* preparing • the plans which were considered by" the council to be for a bridge unsuit* - able td the needs of the locality Mt Walker advised the council that he had followed the instructions given him by the Works Department. The chairman, Mr T. A. Barrett* informed the meeting that nothing further could be done at the present time. The trouble seemed to be that the engineer had taken instructions . from the Work Department and many hands had tried to deal with the* matter. Too many people had tried' to make decisions about the type of bridge suitable for the locality. There' should have been no delay in having'; the bridge constructed and the delay was no doubt the result of the elabor-;, ate procedure which had to be goner through in such matters., The chair-/ man moved that the-matter be deferred until the June meeting' and the council decided to adopt that course. -- - ■"'■T' -"J" ’ ''"lt
