Mrs Bowles was a daughter of the late Mr Frederick Cocks, the first chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council, and for 28 years the Paeroa agent for the Northern Steamship Company Limitd. Born'at Thames in 1871 Mrs Bowles came with her parents to Paeroa at the age of two and lived in Paeroa until she married the late Mr George Bowles in 1910.
