PARSING OF MRS E. A. BOWLES
EARLY LIFE IN PAEROA
A link with the early days of Paeroa was severed with the sudden passing of Mrs Emma Agnes Bowles, wife of the late Mr George Bowles, at Grams road, Manurewa, on Monday last at the age of 78 years. Mrs Bowles was a daughter of the late Mr Frederick Cocks, the first chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council, and for 28 years the Paeroa agent for the Northern Steamship Company Limitd. Born'at Thames in 1871 Mrs Bowles came with her parents to Paeroa at the age of two and lived in Paeroa until she married the late Mr George Bowles in 1910. Deceased was educated at the Paeroa school and later was employed for many years by Mr Wm. Cullen, whose business is now carried on by Mr F, T. Gregson. After her marriage in 1910 to the late Mr Bowles, who was locomotive inspector for the New Zealand Railways, deceased spent many years travelling with her husband whose duties took him all over the Dominion. At a later date they lived in Wellington, finally making their home in Auckland. There were no children of the marriage.
Mrs Bowles leaves surviving her one sister, Mrs George Denton, of Paeroa, and three brothers, Mr Frederick Clayton, of Colville, Mr Edward S. Clayton, of Paeroa and Mr William G. Clayton, of Te Aroha.
