PAEROA BOXERS
TOURNAMENT AT THAMES THREE LOCAL BOYS COMPETE Three Paeroa boys competed at the recent tournament staged by the Thames Boxing Association at Which Mr H. May of Paeroa was one of the referees.
Fights in which Paeroa boys competed were as follows:— R. Andrews, 5.11 (Waitoa) v. K. McKee (Paeroa). The Waitoa boy went right in from the gong ahd bad McKee bustled for a while. In the last round Andrews, with good footwork and ringcraft, avoided taking any punishment at all, and scOred occasionally on McKee. Andrews won on points.
S. Martinovich, 9.0 (Paeroa) v. L. Bartell, 8.7 (Hamilton). In the first round Bartell seemed the more confident, Martinovich keeping fairly quiet until he had sized him up. Very little fighting was done. Round two saw more action, with the scoring fairly even. Round three was. more willing, and Martinovich began to draw ahead. At the end of the round the decision went to Martinovich on points. G. Walker, 5.9 (Waitoa) v. T. Shaw, 6.0 (Paeroa). These two gave a very good exhibition of boxing for such young boys. Shaw did most of the attacking and won on points.
