NGATEA FAREWELL

MR & MRS S. V. BARRIBALL

PRESENTATION MADE WELL-KNOWN SETTLERS A large number of Ngatea residents were present at a public function held recently to farewell yet another of Ngatea’s well-known and respected couples, Mr and Mrs S. V. Barriball. From the stage which was decorated with bowls of rhododendrons and greenery, the Melody Masters provided the dance music, and Mr E. R. O. Sherlbck was M.C. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr M. Dalgety and Miss B. Moore.

After a tasty supper, Mr L. Tye was called upon to make a presentation on behalf of the residents of the district. Mr Tye said that he had been a close neighbour of Mr and Mrs S. V. Barriball for 17 years, and they had been good friends and good citi-

zens, who/would be greatly missed in the district. He presented th?m with a magnificent chiming clock on which was engraved: “To Mr and Mrs S. V. Barriball, from the residents of Ngatea—l /8/49.” Mrs Barriball, who was wearing a model frock of rust wool georgette ornamented with pin tucks and a gold chain ornament, was also given a charming Victorian posy of daphne, and blue and red anemones. Mr Barriball expressed his appreciation of the fihe gift to his wife and himself, and said he would not lose interest in the Plains as his family was still in Ngatea, and he would naturally .be back for the Peace Cup matches! They were accorded musical honours and dancing continued till the singing of Auld Lang Syne.

The winners of the cards were Mrs W. Flint and Mr Duncan.

Those present included Mesdames S. V. Barriball, H. Barriball, M. Barriball, E. Jackson, D. Waite, C. McCarthy, G. Millen, P. Benner, A. Courtney, C. Kennedy, A. Price, V. Birkenhead, G. Birkenhead, W. Burke, T. Brien, H. Billings, A. Henderson, L. Keith, Potter, W. Flint, T. Syden-, ham, Dalgety, F. Speedy and C. Waite.’
