LITTLE INTEREST

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ATTITUDE OF PEOPLE APPEAL FOR MORE SUPPORT The annual meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce was held recently in Paeroa when the retiring president, Mr E. W. Lee, presided over a fair attendance of members. Mr J. J. Craig congratulated the president upon the comprehensive report presented to the meeting. Special reference was made to the valuable work which had been done by Mr Lee during his term of office. There was considerable discussion as to methods to be taken to increase membership of the chamber. It was pointed out that the membership amounted to but 50 per cent, of the business men of Paeroa.

Mr R. Jeffrey pointed out that much time and thought was given by the chamber to matters which made for the progress of Paeroa and that the organisation was worthy of the support.

Mr Lee advised the meeting that he would not seek re-election for the office of president. He thought that it was in the interests of the chamber that the office should go round. Mr Lee thanked members of the executive committee for the support and active co-operation he had received. The holding of office had, for him, been made most pleasant. He urged all to attend meetings regularly as without attendance at meetings nothing could be achieved. From numbers came ideas and weight behind their efforts. It needed numbers to promote the interests of Paeroa and it was most necessary to have a live organisation.

Mr Lee in conclusion thanked the secretary, Mr J. H. Bartlett, for his able assistance and he also thanked the Press for the publicity given to the activities of the chamber,

The following officers were elected for.the coming year:— President, Mr A. C. Boulton; vicepresident, Mr J. J. Craig; auditor, Mr R. S. Nicol; executive committee, Messrs E. W. Lee, E. Ward, N. C. Davies, R. Jeffrey, B. A. Gwilliam, L. Ziegler, W. Dean and W. H. Cheale.

A vote of thanks to Mr R. C. Blackmore for his services as auditor was moved and carried.
