BAND DISPLAY

TO BE HELD IN PAEROA APPEAL FOR SUPPORT PROGRAMME ON SUNDAY Sunday, May 1, will be the first occasion on which the present citizens’ committee of the Paeroa Municipal Band will make an appeal to the public of the town and surrounding district for support in its endeavours to increase both the size of the band to its full complement and to provide first class instruments for it. The committee has drawn up a full programme for an afternoon’s display in the Paeroa domain and for a concert of sacred music to be presented in the Regent Theatre, Paeroa, the same dav.

A feature of the programme will be the appearance in Paeroa of the Hamilton Pipe Band, which includes top ranking players, having won championships on two occasions and was placed second at a recent contest at New Plymouth. The Hamilton pipers will give a display of the quickstep and a drum majors’ display, both of which are picturesque. The appearance of this band is made possible by the Paeroa Caledonian Society.

O,ther bands taking part in the display will.be the Te Aroha Pipe Band, the Kerepehi Boys’ Brass Band and the Paeroa Municipal Band. All bands will parade at the Criterion Hotel at 1.15 p.m. on Sunday and move off at intervals of three minutes. The route will be up the main street, turning right at the Post Office, lead into the Paeroa domain

and make a complete circuit of the field, finally halting in front of the grandstand. The afternoon will then be devoted to the displays, the playing of hymns, selections and marches by the respective bands. In the evening at 8.15 a concert will be presented at the Regent Theatre by the Kerepehi Boys’ Brass Band and the Paeroa Municipal Band with many other well known popular artists in support. A collection will be taken, the proceeds will be in aid of the Paeroa band’s new instruments fund and it is hoped that the people of the district will support this genuine appeal.
