WAITAKARURU SERVICE
LARGE ATTENDANCE In spite of the unkind weather conditions those was a large attendance St Waitakaruru of the people of the district at the services held to commemorate Ansae Day.
SoMen of both wars fell into parade formation at the Poet Office and, to the music provided by the Kerepebi Boys* Brass Band, they marched to the Waitakaruru hall.
The service was presided over by Mr N. Hedges and the Rev. Scott of the Anglican church, Te Aroha, gave a -very inspiring address during which he emphasised the point that unless the people today upheld the principles for which so many fought and died all their sacrifices would have been in vain.
The hymns sung were accompanied by sympathetic and soft music played by the hand. After the service the parade re-formed and marched to the Waitakaruru Memorial Church, where wreaths were laid at >he foot of the memorial tablet by the representatives of the following organisations:— First N.Z.E.F., Mr L. Bates; Second N.Z.E.F., Mr Eric Duffin; Sub-branch R.S.A., Mr N. Hedges; Women’s Institute, Mrs A. Hegh; Women’s Division of Federated Fanners, Mrs Flynn; Scouts and Cubs and school children.
