QUALITY BLOOMS

SHOW HELD AT TURUA VERY FINE DISPLAY . PRAISE BY VISITOR Mrs J. Hollis, president of th? Thames Valley provincial executive of the Women;B Division of Federated Farmers, highly praised the wonderful quality and quantity of blooms exhibited at the Plunket and W.D.F.F. flower show which she opened at Turua, on Wednesday, March 16. She alto apoke highly, of the many entries on the stalls, making apeqal mention of the work put into the articles for sale on the needlework stall. The standard of children’s entries was good. A dahlia, exhibited by Mrs Frear (Kopuarahi) and assessed the show champion, was a perfect bloomy said the judge, Mr Adams.

The flower show continued in evening when there were various competitions, which were well organised by the husbands of the lady workers.) Competitions and thte auctioning of cakes was very ably conducted by Mr A. Whitehead, assisted by Mrs A. Green. Supper was served by a willing band of workers bringing a verybusy but successful day to a close. Competitions resulted as follows: Darts, men, Mr J. Murray; ladies, Mrs A. Sutton; boys, N. Fox. Candle blowing, men, Mr Prowse; ladies, Mrs Treadaway. Quoits, men, Mr C. K. Fox; ladies, Mrs A. Sutton; boys, Ron Treadaway. Nail driving, men, Mr Chook Deyres; ladies, Mrs A. Sutton. Bobs, men, Mr C. Scrivener; ladies, Mrs Ward.

Judges for the day were: Cut flowers, Mr Ken Adams; floral decorative, Mrs GWynne; vegetables, Mr Flint; children’s section, Mrs S. J. Strong; cakes, Mr Bun Miller; sweets, Mrs J. Bowen; needlework, Mrs J. Hollis and Mrs Sydenham.
