BRIDGE APPROACHES

SHOULD BE IMPROVED

KOPU AND PARAWAI The question of improving the approaches to the bridge across the Waihou at Kopu and the bridge on the Thames-Paeroa highway at Parawai, was raised at the February meeting of the council of the Thames Chamber of Commerce by the chairman, Mr A. G. T. Bryan. Mr Bryan considered that the chamber should draw the attention of the Hauraki Plains County Council to the sudden drop off the western end of the Waihou river bridge. Motor traffic felt the bump as it left the bridge, he said, and the chamber should request the council to improve the approach so that a smooth run on and off the bridge was obtained. Motorists unacquainted with the route were frequently startled by the unexpected drop at that point. Mr Bryan thought that a similar letter should be sent to the Thames Borough Council in regard to the northern end of the Parawai bridge at Jellicoe crescent. The chamber should point out that it was understood that the Main High, ways Board was aware of the position and was willing to assist in remedying the matter, Mr Bryan added. On Mr Bryan’s motion the chamber decided to make the requests to the two councils.
