PAEROA-THAMES FARE TRAVELLERS BY TRAIN PASSENGERS HAVE TO USE BUS An attempt to have the fare for the Thames-Paeroa journey on New Zealand Railways Road Passenger Service buses for train passengers from distant towns included in the fare for the railway ticket, at railway rates, is being made by the Thames Chamber of Commerce. .
At the February meeting of the council of the chamber it was stated by Mr J. Currie that railway tickets to Thames were not being sol’d from Wellington. He thought that a passenger from Wellington should not have to pay the road service rate for the journey from Paeroa to Thames simply because the Railways Department had made it necessary for the person to travel to Thames by bus instead of train.
Other members agreed that if the Railways Department had eliminated the train service between Paeroa and Thames for passengers from the Main Trunk, then the department should make an allowance for the difference in the price of the ticket that was needed between Paeroa and Thames. It was thought that the Thames passengers to outside towns, who had to travel by rail, should be given the same consideration. The chamber decided to write to the Railways Department in an attempt to have its views put into operation.
