SEASON ENDS

PAEROA LAWN TENNIS

TROPHIES PRESENTED

FUNCTION HELD ON SATURDAY

The Paeroa Lawn Tennis Club officially closed for the 1947-48 season during the week-end under weather conditions which were practically ideal.

A short address was given by the president, Mr H. O. Walker, in which especial mention was made of the club’s sound financial position, being able to meet the very heavy cost of a new mower in cash, but it was pointed out that having to meet so heavy a commitment meant curtailing expenditure in other directions. With subscriptions providing little more

than sufficient to cover annual expenditure, more money would have to be raised next- season to pay for repairs to fences, nets, etc., which, due to shortages during the war years had fallen into a state of some disrepair. The president extended his personal appreciation and thanks to members generally and committee members in particular, for the way in which they had served the club’s interests and helped to make the season the success it undoubtedly had been. , The presentation of trophies to the various successful competitors in club events was then proceeded with, after which the president formally declared the courts closed for the 1947-48 tennis season. Trophies were presented as follows:— Ladies’ championship singles, Mrs G. Moran; men’s championship singles, Mr H. Taylor; ladies’ championship doubles, Mrs Simmonds and Mrs Walker; men’s championship doubles, Mr Meyer and Mr Simmonds; championship combines, Miss P. Handley and Mr H. Taylor; ladies’ handicap singles, Mrs G. Moran; men’s handicap singles, Mr F. Griffiths; ladies’ handicap doubles, Miss Jean Morgan and Miss Colleen Shaw; men’s handicap doubles, Mr R. Harris and Mr J. Sinnett; handicap combines, Miss Beverley Bain and Mr F. Griffiths. Points competition, prizes donated by Mr A. Boulton: Mrs Walker and Mr Walker.
