SHOULD BE KEREPEHI

SPELLING OF PLACE NAME GEOGRAPHIC BOARD RULING For many years there have been two schools of thought regarding the correct spelling of the place name Kerepehi. Many people have been of the opinion that the name should be spelt Kerepeehi. Some time ago Mr H. G. McGowan of Kerepehi referred the matter to the N.Z. Geographic Board for a ruling and they replied that a decision was actually made in 1933 concerning this name. The ruling was that the name should be spelt Kerepehi. A note was added that since the final ‘e ’ was long, it was sometimes spelt Kerepeehi. This ruling will be shortly published in the N.Z. Gazette in a list of decisions of the N.Z. Geographic Board comprising approximately 1700 place names.
