BRIDGE IN BAD STATE
KARANGAHAKE RAILWAY TROUBLE FROM OVERLOADING “ The Karangahake railway bridge is in such a state that a bar could be put through the planks,” said Mr L. E. Shaw, engineer to the Ohinemuri County Council, after presenting his report to the December meeting of the council. “ The whole of the bridge will have to be re-decked,” he said.
He had to give some warning that something would have to be done about many of the bridges in the county, Mr Shaw said. The damage was being done by overloading. There seemed to be no control on the overloading of trucks today, he said.
In the very near future the council would have to go in for a bridge programme, Mr Shaw said.
