WOMEN’S DIVISION FUNCTION

AFTERNOON AT COROMANDEL

The annual flower show organised under the auspices of the Coromandel branch of the Women’s Division was held in St. George’s Hall. Coromandel recently. Ideal weather prevailed and the show was a great success. The entries were of a very high standard, and particularly in the flower section the number was well up to previous years. Owing to rationing, the cookery section was not so well filled as in pre-war years. , The school section was good and showed an improvement over previous years. Some exceptionally good entries were made in the vegetable section but they were not very plentiful. Mr E. Deeble, in officially opening the show said it was an honour to perform this duty once again and he thanked the Women’s Division for the invitation to do so. He congratulated the members for their* enthusiasm in maintaining the annual fixture. Coromandel was under a debt of gratitude to the organisation for this function. He concluded his remarks by complimenting the exhibitors and congratulating the prize-winners. Mrs Bouskill, president, thanked Mr Deeble for his remarks, and welcomed everyone and then introduced Mrs Blackmore, the provincial president. Mrs Blackmore said it was the first time she had had the privilege of attending the Coromandel flower show. She congratulated the Women’s Division and the people of Coromandel on the marvellous display of fruit, cookery, fancy work and flowers. Mrs Bouskill thanked her members for their help and co-operation, the silver band for its music and the children for their interest' in the show. Joan Turner pinned shoulder sprays on the women who had addressed the gathering.

The -band played selections outside the hall before the official opening, and the music greatly assisted, in the holiday feeling which was evidenced by all attending the show. The hand played the national anthem inside the hall, followed by a • stirring march. Afternoon tea was served in the supper room and was under the capable direction of Mrs W. H. Turner.
