HEALTH REPORT

NO INFECTIOUS DISEASES MILK COMPLIES WITH ACT RUBBISH TIP CAUSES CONCERN “ I have pleasure to report the ab* sence of infectious diseases in the Paeroa borough during August,” stated Mr W. L. Oliver, the sanitary inspector, to the council, in his report to the September meeting of the P.aeroa Borough Council. “ During the month 12 samples of milk were taken from the various milk vendors. Al] samples taken proved to comply with the regulations under the Sale of Food and Drugs Act. Each month samples will be taken from the various milk vendors and this will include milk bars serving milk shakes. Plumbing and Drainage “ Plumbing and drainage work in the borough has received the usual attention and drains have been subjected to tests. “ Since my arrival in this district the borough rubbish tip has given me a considerable amount of concern. The refuse has been tipped in 'heaps and covered without being levelled. This practice leaves the tip very unsightly and too great a surface on the edges. If the refuse is left in heaps the rain washes the covering off, leaving the refuse exposed to flies, dogs and rats. I am pleased to state that the tip has now been cleaned up and levelled off and I hope it is maintained in this condition. Food Premises “ Inspections have been carried out at various food premises during the month and while most of these are in reasonable condition there are a few that require improvements but this will be best left for the relicensing period. “ During the month an inspection of the water catchment area for the Paeroa water supply was carried out in conjunction with the medical officer of health for the district. While Dr. Davis was in the district an inspection was also carried out of the catchment area supplying the Waitawheta stream from which it is proposed to take the new water supply. “ Various complaints were received during the month; all of which received attention,” the report concluded.
