GOOD SHOOT

PAEROA GUN CLUB SPORT AT TIROHIA MANY VISITORS ATTEND The Paeroa Gun Club held its monthly shoot at Tirohia on Sunday last. Although there was a strong south-westerly wind, most of the shoots wei-e got off without any rain. A keen interest is being taken in this sport in Paeroa and while the club is only in its infancy, there is quite a large membership. The very large crowd which attended was made up of visitors from Te Aroha, Morrinsville, Hauraki Plains, Puriri and Thames. Many of these took part in one or more of the several shoots held. Although the strong •wind made the clays play tricks at times, the shooting was- of a " high standard. The local men shot well, particularly Lei) Morgan, who only missed seven birds in fifty. The novice shoot created quite a bit of interest and was won by Fred Dare of Karangahake. Dare was having his first shot at clay birds in thirtyodd years. The ladies’ committee provided luncheon and afternoon tea for a large crowd-. Following are the results of the shoots:— Five .bird eye-opener (14 competitors): L. Morgan, J. Kidd and R. Claude each shot the possible and divided the sweep. First seven bird shoot (24 competitors): L. Morgan, K. McGlyen, R. Tilsley and T. Elliot all shot the- possible and divided the prize. Ten- bird shoot (25 competitors): L. Hayward, L. Hunter and N. Pearson each dropped one bird -and shared the prize. Second seven bird shoot (30 competitors)!: This proved a very keen contest and was won by T. Elliott, the only competitor to shoot the possible. Mixed shoot, 5 bind novice, IO- bird’ sweep'stake (26 competitors): F. Dare dropped one bird to win the novice sweep while L. Hayward (Thames), dropped one bird to win the sweepstake. First miss out shoot (15 competitors): Won by J. C. Fausett,'who shot eight straight. Seven bird gimcrack (19 competitors) : L. Morgan and L. Hayward each shot the possible and divided the prize.
