WELCOME HOME

1 MR HILTON HUGHES NGATEA YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB , A very enjoyable dance was held in , the Ngatea Hall recently by the Ngatea Young Fanners’ Club. There was a large crowd of dancers present from all parts of the Plains. Music for dancing was supplied by the Rhythm Trio and Miss N. Miller played l an extra. Mr R. P. Flint was the M.C. After supper had been served Mr Flint, on' behalf of all present, welcomed ’back to the district Mr Hilton Hughes who had arrived back in the district that morning after serving overseas with the J-Force. He said Hilton had been a keen member of the of the Young Farmers’ Club before going overseas and he was very pleased to welcome him back again. He said it was easier to go from civilian life to the army than it was to go back into civilian life again, but he hoped Hilton would successfully rehabilitate himself and thanked him for the part he had done ih the forces. ■ . Mr Hughes suitably replied and said it was very nice to be back home once more. A competition held during the evening was won by Mr C. J. Mangan and the first Monte Carlo won by Miss E. Yelavich and Mr S. Williamson while Miss J. Midwood and Mr A. Jones won the second. Among those present -were Mesdames N. Burke, E.. Yelavich, G. Hughes, Grime, M. Ivicevich, E. Challis, A. Beck, A. Cleave,'. Misses D. Phelps, K. Jackson, I. Jackson, F. Waite, M. Waite, E. Yelavich, M. Martinovich, L. Scott, J. Dalgety, H. Ecclestone, Y. Tatton, M. McWatters, M. Ecclestone, M. Williams, J. McKee, N. Hayes, M. Burke, D. Erceg, L. Hayes, J. Stretton (Waitakaruru), K. Mangan, D. Russell, M. Stretton (Waitakaruru), N. Adams, T. Crookes, J. Midwood (Paeroa), B. Beck, N. Miller, P.
