NEW BLOOD

VALLEY JERSEY HERDS PURCHASES BY BREEDERS OVER FORTY HEAD SECURED Jersey breeders throughout the Thames Valley area have been attending dispersal sales during the last two months as far afield as New Plymouth in the Taranaki district and Taneatua in the Bay of Plenty area where they have purchased some of the choicest animals from studs well known throughout New Zealand. The majority of the sales this season have been very successful for the vendors while it is anticipated by Jersey experts in, this district that the infusion of new blood into the different local herds will prove of great breed value. Altogether over forty head have been added to local studs, which must assist in the continuous success of the Jersey breed in the Thames Valley area.

Among the breeders who have purchased cattle are the following:— Chas. Townshend & Sons, Awaiti

A yearling stud bull from F. Telford, New Plymouth, by Lansdowne Dreaming Sam (son of Meon Neve, V.H.C., elite L.M.R. cow), from L. Royal Delight, H.C., five G.H.T. records up to 512 lb. fat and: averaging 450 lb. fat for first five lactations. This young sire carries three strains of the famous Brampton Dreaming Sam, C. 8.8. * Glenmar Hema (ex G. S. and N. Bruce, Morrinsville): A 10-year-old heifer sired by the Rae bred bull Raeburn Golden Omen, who claims three C. 8.8. and three V.H.C. for his three nearest sires and dams. She is from Glenmar Dahlia, a Pancrest Royal En-sign-Toatoa cow. She is in calf to a son of Raeburn Joan, V.H.C., 608 lb. fat.

Checkmates Jeannie: An outstanding yearling (ex A. Hazelton, Waihou) by the outstanding imported sire Brampton Checkmate Crown, from Fairy Meadows Jeannie, H.C, C.O.R. approximately 500 lb. fat. This heifer combines the blood of. Mr Hazelton’s three recent importations. Fairy Meadows Royal Rose: A yearling (ex Mr Hazelton) hy Marshlands Royal Ace, from F.M. Rosalind, H.C., 480 lb. fat.

Snow View Beaming Star: A two-year-old (ex H. Purdie, Waitara), by Dreaming Owler, three nearest dams all V.H.C.), from Snow View Starlet, O.H.T. 410 lb. fat, and is three-quarter sister to Snow View Noki, V.H.C-, L.M.R, dam of Bellwin herd sire.

Raeburn Violas Blonde: A two-year-old (ex J. S. Rae, Taneatua), by the imported Blonde Bess Masterpiece from Raeburn Golden Viola, daughter of the famous Raeburn Miss Viola, V.H.C., C.O.R. 442 lb. fat. In calf to an Owler bull.

Jericho Biddy: A rising five-year-old, O.H.T. 404 lb. fat at three years. Daughter of Kowhainui Darby (son of Meon Nero, merit bull, from a (i Pine woods ” bred cow) from Jericho Bonny, L.M.R. cow with 1220 lb. fat.

She is in calf to Cloverfields Enid’s Sam, son of Oddicombe Dreaming Sam’, C. 8.8., and Cloverfields Enid, V.H.C., 580 lb. fat in 305 days and full sister to the herd sire Electric Boy. Crofton Beryl: A yearling (ex E. H. Luxton, New Plymouth), by Crofton Dreaming Sam (son of Meon Nemesis and Crofton Perfect Queen, H.C., 511 lb. fat at two years), from Ngahiwi Romances Gloria, 419 lb. fat (by Ngahiwi Romances Sam, from a daughter of Meon Naunau, C. 8.8.).

Crofton Susan: A yearling by Crofton Dreaming Sam from Crofton Valma, 430 lb. fat at two years. Crofton Yetta, a yearling by Crofton Dreaming Sam from Crofton Etta, 343 lb. fat.

Crofton Hetty: A one and a half-year-old by Crofton Dreaming Sam from a daughter of C. Perfect King, thus carrying two crosses of the famous Perfect Queen, 'H.C., winner of Taranaki Oaks.

Crofton Netty: Twin sister of Hetty. At a high three figure price this stud purchased the outstanding three-year-old heifer, Tirohia Elegant Lady, being by Windermere Full of Hope from a daughter of Ebors Lady Ema. They are to be complimented on keeping this great young cow in the district.

Muritai Winsome: A 10-year-old H.C. cow from the pedigree herd of Mr R. Weeden, Waitara. She is an L.M.R. cow by Meon Nester, a merit sire, son of Brampton Dreaming Sam, C. 8.8. She is from an L.M.R. double grand-daughter of a Champion Butterfat Bull.

Muritai Wildfire; A four-year-old cow from the pedigree herd of Mr R. Weeden, Waitara. She is by a son of Jersey Dale Fawn, V.H.C.
