OVER 1000 NURSES

IMMIGRANTS TO NEW ZEALAND

MINISTER ANSWERS MR NEATE'

When the Minister in charge of Immigration, the Hon. A. McLagan, was discussing Government policy in this respect at the recent Labour Party conference, Mr J. W. Neate approached him, as a member of the Thames Hospital Board, about the staffing of hospitals. Figures bearing on this were secured from the Minister.

Already 225 mental hospital nurses had been admitted. In the new scheme, 100' additional mental hospital nurses will be brought into the Dominion. For general institutions, 300 pupil nurses will come here, 80* nursing aids, 80‘ maternity trainees, 40 maternity nurses and 300 domestic staff, a total of 1425 additions for staffs of hospitals throughout the Dominion when the scheme is completed.
