KIDD CUP

WON BY WHITIANGA

MATCH WITH KENNEDY’S BAY

On Saturday the Whitianga Football Club journeyed to Coromandel to meet Kennedy’s Bay in a challenge match for the Kidd Cup. The visitors were successful in lifting the trophy by beating the holders by three points to nil.

Kennedy’s Bay won the toss and during the first half had the advantage of a strong cross wind but they were unable to cope with the weather conditions which were handled much better by the challengers. The game was dull and uninteresting for the greater part and was mostly confined to the forwards, but both sides endeavoured to feed their backs who were unable owing to the ..greasy ball and heavy wind to make much headway.

A smart try was scored by L. Cheyney in the first half and this was unconverted.- Whitianga was unlucky in not scoring on other occasions and had the best of the game throughout. Mr W. Mangakahia was the referee.

For Kennedy’s Bay C. Little, Mareroa and P. Potae were prominept in the forwards, while G. Thwaites was the pick of the backs. For Whitianga Davies and Cheyney were outstanding in the backs, while Lowe and Ross took the eye in the forwards.
