WIN FOR KENNEDY’S BAY MONTGOMERY SH'TEED MATCH The principal rugby attraction on the Coromandel Domain on Saturday was Coromandel versus Kennedy’s Bay in the knock-out challenge round for the Montgomery (Shield. Kennedy’s Bay fielded the strongest team this year and snatched a last minute victory from Coromandel by nine points to eight. 'G. Thwaites was playing- for the first time for several weeks for the Bay and in the second half the spectators were treated to some fine back play and in and out passing by him and Colin Flavell who turned out for the first time this season. The score at half time was Bay 3 Coromandel nil, made up of an unconverted try by Potae.
After the interval Syddalls and Ngapo scored for Coromandel and Ngapo converted his own try with a very fine kick from a difficult angle while Herring scored an unconverted try. On the call of time G. Thwaites kicked a penalty goal for Kennedy’s Bay. Mr V. Keefe was the referee. COLVILLE WIN MATCH WITH MANAIA In the curtain-raiser at Coromandel Colville defeated M ; anaia by 19 points to six. The game was patchy but with some brilliant play at times by the (Manaia backs and a notable try scored by Leggans for Colville when he accepted a pass in his own and cut clean through the opposition to punt over the full-back’s head and store near the posts.
Tries for Manaia were scored by Williams and Taylor, while, Bright, Wischnows'ky, Leggans, Bull arid Williams scored for Colville, Williams adding the major points in converting two tries.
Mr W. Mangakahia controlled the game.
