EARLY LAMBS
TWO BORN AT PURIRI
DORSET HORN BREED
Much earlier than the usual run of lambing, two Dorset Horn lambs, two separate ewes, were horn on the farm of Mr R. Hunter, iPuriri, last week. INormally, the main lambing season is. from July, but the Dorset Hom breed seems to be something exceptional. Two or three weeks ago it was reportedi from' -A-uckland that the 1 first lambs of the season, of the Dorset Horn breed, had appeared. The Dorset Horn sheep, in fact, produce two lots of lambs in a season, the first lot about August and the second in the autumn. They are a particularly fast-growing fat lamb, but nevertheless something of a novelty locally. Mr Hunter secured a few mainly for curiosity, and does not know of many more farmers in his immediate neighbourhood possessing them. They have certainly aroused considerable interest at Puriri. The rams are almost goat-like, a feature being the curved horns, which kin the fully-grown' ram have' three ..complete twists.
