WORK ENDED

PATRIOTIC ACTIVITY

COMMITTEE AT NGATEA

FINAL MEETING HELD

The final meeting of the Ngatea Patriotic Sub-Committee was held in the ’Ngatea Hall recently, before a fair attendance, Mr C. 'W. ’Schultz? occupying the chair. In his opening remarks the chairman reminded those present tfiat work had been started just after the outbreak of war; in fact, the committee had been in operation since February, 19'40. In the ensuing years much good work had' been done, and Mt iSchullz desired to thank all who had laboured on the various committees. A special committee, consisting of Mesdames E. jSherlock, T. Sydenham and H. Dalgety, was formed to carry on any work necessary in connection with returned men in the. district. After much discussion on general subjects connected with the work, it was finally decided to disband, and

a resolution to this effect was carried, •on the motion of Mrs E. 'Sherlock, seconded by Mrs Phelps. It was the opinion of those present that, owing to the impossibility of being able to get together all who had left from the district, also because •each man had- been welcomed home, and the difficulties of the food situation, it was inadvisable to hold any further function. 'Special thanks’ were passed: to the chairman and secretary for their work in connection with the association. NGATEA MEMORIAL COMMITTEE FORMED ■ f A small committee was formed from the final meeting of the Ngatea Patriotic iSub-conimittee to investigate ways and means of erecting a suitable cenotaph in Ngatea in honour of those men from 1 the district who had paid the supreme sacrifice.
