A GOOD SEASON

PAEROA CROQUET CLUB CLOSING AFTERNOON HELD (By Hoop and Miallet) The 1945-(19i46 croquet season in Paeroa was brought to a successful conclusion recently. Mrs E. P. Fathers the popular president, gave a closing afternoon, ably assisted by her' vice presidents Mesdames J. R- Kidd and Fielding. Games were played during the afternoon and prizes were won by Mesdames Hendry, Shaw and Milen... A very pleasant feature of the afternoon was the beautiful Autumn blooms with which the tables were decorated. These were arranged by Mrs H. Peart and looked very gay.

After a delicious afternoon tea Mrs Fathers called upon Mrs Edwards, of Waikino, to except a vase as a small gift from her fellow players before leaving for Auckland where she is to live in future.

Mrs Peart was presented with the Lamb Vase which she had won this year as club champion, and M'rs Stewart received the handicap singles; also the B. Silver Button. Mrs Shaw won the C. Button for the season.

In a few well chosen words Mrs Peart thanked Mrs Fathers for the vase and expressed the hope that next season would see the donor, Mis Lamb, back playing croquet.

During the season a few of the club members competed in outside tournaments and with only two exceptions have all brought home honours to their club. Mrs Fielding recently won the (A.) Doubles at Cambridge and also was runner-up in the championship singles for the Murray Rose Bowl. This player has improved her game greatly this year and should easy be an A.A. player next yeai. The club has enjoyed, good croquet this year and greens have been wed kept.
