COROMANDEL COUNTY REPORT BY FOREMAN ACTIVITIES OF THE MONTH The following' comiprehensive report on work done on roads and bridges on the Peninsula was tabled by the foreman, iM.r W. Beech, at the April meeting of the Coromandel County Council. The report read as under:— Main Highways Coromandel-Thames: Repairs to the stone wall near the red cutting on this highway have been completed and 20 cubic yards of metal spread on the Manaia section. A point has been cut back on the coast section and 70 cubic yards of crushed metal spread. Several slips came down during the wet weather, and have since been cleared. The pipes for Wenzlick’s crossing have not yet come to hand. Coromandel-Mercury Bay: Several small slips came down on this highway during the wet weather, these have been cleared off and water tables and culverts attended to. The stone wall near N'gapo’s rock has been built up. Further patching of the tar seal has been carried out. The flood gates at Wordens have been inspected with the view' of improving same. Tapu-Kaimarama: A start has been made to metal this road in the 'Worst places from Jorgensens pit. Water tables and culverts have also been cleared. 'Several large stones came down at the ißluff and towards' the five mile; these were soon cleared off. Main Roads Coromandel-Colville-Port Jackson: Metal has been spread in some of the worst places on this road. A total of 74~ cubic’yards of crushed metal has been spread' on the road between the end of the tar seal and Kikowhakarere bay. From the .Strongman’s hill section towards Branch creek 70 cubic yards have been spread and furtner metalling is required. It is proposed to put in a set of 18in. pipes along the pipes near C. McCalls, as the present set is far too small to carry the water. Several small slips have been cleared off from Big bay to Waiaro and water tables attended, also some metalling carried out. The hand rail has been erected at the Port Charles wharf. Coromandel-Kennedy’s Bay road: ‘Small slips came down on this road, blocking water tables which have since been cleared. Metal has been broken out at the Tokatea quarry for use on this road, there is also some metal ready for the Tuateawa road'. Coromandel-Kuaotunu: Small slips have been cleared off and watei* tables attended to on the Gentle Annie and Murphy’s hills, also growth cut back. One day’s metalling has been carried out filling the worst places at the Kuaotunu end. Turner’s bridge has received further attention; four new decking planks have been placed. Ridings Coromandel: Inspections were made in company with the health inspector for a suitable sanitary dump, but the matters was not finalised. Madden’s bridge at Driving creek has been repaired. The grader is having an overhaul, new liners have been put in and big ends run. Whitianga: The shelling of Mill road at the Bay has been completed, footpaths chipped and water tables cleaned.
